Two hours, somewhere between six and sundown, on the quietest stretch of Lake Austin. Limestone cliffs go gold. The wakes from the day disappear. Your captain points the boat toward Mount Bonnell and lets you drift into the kind of light Texas only gives you twice a day. That is the Lake Austin sunset cruise.
This is not a shared tour. It is a private, captained charter. Your group, our boat, your speed. Bring your people, your playlist, and your drinks; we handle the rest.
What is included on every sunset charter
- A local, Coast Guard-certified captain who has been on Lake Austin for years
- Pontoon or charter boat with full shade canopy, swim ladder, and Bluetooth sound system
- Iced cooler, snacks, and cold drinks already on board
- Fuel, life jackets, and all safety gear
- Pickup at any public dock, including Walsh Boat Landing, Loop 360 Boat Ramp, Emma Long Park, Mary Quinlan Park, or your private dock
No surprise add-ons. No 20% captain gratuity tacked on at the end. The price you see is what you pay.
What the cruise actually looks like
Most sunset cruises start about ninety minutes before sundown. We meet you at the dock with the cooler already loaded. From Walsh Boat Landing or Loop 360, it is a few minutes to the prettiest cypress-lined coves on the lake, the kind of stretches you cannot see from any road.
The route is yours. Some couples want a quiet drift past the Hill Country mansions of Little Venice. Bachelorette groups want music up and floaties out. Families want to anchor in a swim cove for thirty minutes while the kids jump off the bow. Anniversary couples want the boat all the way to the dam where the cliffs turn pink. Your captain will give you options as you go.
About forty minutes in, when the light starts to go, we point the boat west. The last twenty minutes of the cruise are the reason you booked it. Limestone bluffs lit from the side, the lake gone glass, and Pennybacker Bridge in silhouette behind you.
Perfect for
- Date nights and anniversaries. Bring the bottle, we will do the rest.
- Proposals. Let us know in advance and we will find you the most private cove on the lake.
- Small bachelorette groups who want photos at golden hour without the party-cove chaos of Lake Travis.
- Family evenings. Calm water, no big wakes, swim-friendly stops.
- Birthdays for someone who would rather drift than dance.
- Visitors to Austin looking for something memorable that is not barbecue.
Lake Austin vs Lake Travis at sunset
Lake Austin is a constant-level lake. No choppy water from level drops, no exposed shoreline, no rocks where a beach used to be. It is also a no-wake zone in most stretches, which means glass-calm water at sunset. Lake Travis is bigger and louder and ten minutes farther from downtown. For sunset, Lake Austin wins almost every time.
If you have friends or family in town and you want one experience that captures Austin in two hours, this is it.

What guests are saying
“Booked this for our anniversary and it was honestly perfect. Our captain let us pick where to anchor and we ended up in a quiet cove all to ourselves. Already planning next year.”
Emily M., Anniversary, October
“Captain Keaton knew every cove, every cliff jump, every shady spot to anchor for lunch. Easily the best thing we did in Austin.”
Marissa T., Bachelorette, June
